Kumlaby Church

Vit stenkyrka med svart tak på kyrktornet.

Kumlaby Church is an early medieval stone church built in the first half of the 12th century on the site of an older wooden church.

It served as a parish church until the mid-16th century. Today, the church is considered one of the best-preserved medieval buildings in north-western Småland. Over the centuries, it has served various purposes. During the 17th and 18th centuries, it was used, amongst other things, as a classroom for Brahea School, before being restored to its present condition in 1922. Kumlaby Church thus tells the story of both early Christianity and Visingsö’s long tradition as a place of learning.
