Röttle Village and the River Röttleån

En handfull röda små stugor sedd på håll i ett idylliskt och grönskande landskap.

The River Röttleån flows through the village of Röttle and into Lake Vättern. The rushing water has long provided power for local industries.

As early as the 13th century, hydropower was used to drive mills that ground grain.

In the 1600s, Count Per Brahe the Younger, holder of the County of Visingsborg, established several industries in the area. Paper and cloth were manufactured here, among other things, and Röttle developed into an important industrial centre.

Today, two preserved mills and a number of older buildings bear witness to Röttle’s industrial history. The old houses from the 19th century are still inhabited – both by permanent residents and summer visitors – making this a living village where history and the present meet.
