Rune Karlzon’s Hoppets vision (Vision of hope) has been situated In the middle of the square Hoppets Torg in central Jönköping since 1967. The large, abstract bronze sculpture is covered in low reliefs, on both the inside and the outside. The size of the sculpture gives a massive impression and enhances the circular movement around the square, while its details also emphasise the smaller scale and invite the visitor to get closer. Once inside the sculpture, the soundscape changes drastically and the reliefs give the surface a tactility.
Rune Karlzon (1930–2001) was born in Bottnaryd and studied at the University of Arts, Crafts and Design in Stockholm. He is well represented in Jönköping Municipality’s art collection and has made a number of other public artworks in the municipality, including the sculpture Magnus Ladulås (1984) on Skolgatan, the relief of Dag Hammarskjöld (1984) on the facade of the City Library.
