Placement: Södra Munksjön, Jönköping
Technique and material: A 17-metre-high light artwork
About the artwork
In the former park-and ride car park in the transformation area stands Luften är fri (The air is free), a 17-metre-high light artwork with a title that for many can easily be associated with childhood play. The phrase ‘the air is free’ can also be linked to thoughts about the air as part of a greater context and cycle.
The artwork has been shaped through an open sketching process in which Jönköping residents have worked with the artist to twist and turn the associations evoked by the phrase. ‘I wanted to know what air is to those who are going to live with this artwork, what air makes them think about, if the air really is free, and what it means to them,’ explains Hanna Wildow.
