About the artwork
In the rosarium at Rosenlund mansion is Ringen (The ring), a group of bronze and aluminium sculptures cast from models turned in wood by the artist Emelie Sandström. The traces of the wood preserved in the casting process are important to the artist, with details such as veins, chips and cracks still visible. Together, the sculptures form a ring. The shape and title of the work allude to the arch or circle pattern in which mushrooms sometimes grow on lawns, known as a witch’s ring. According to legend, these have also been called fairy rings. It was said that such rings formed where fairies had danced and that the grass then died from wear and tear – one should be careful not to walk through such a ring.
